In the Malay language, it translates to “Us & Them” representing our commitment to bridging the gap between heritage custodians and the modern audience.However, at its heartbeat, KITA MEREKA stands for "WE CREATE". • KITA (We): We represent the collective - the artists, the educators, and the community.• MEREKA (Create/Them): We take the stories of "Them" (our ancestors and our future generations) and we reka - we design, we invent, and we create. We believe that culture is not a static museum piece, but a living energy that must be actively built. By blending the "Us" with the "Create," we ensure that Singapore’s Malay heritage is not just remembered but continuously reimagined through innovative programming and intergenerational storytelling.
